We don't just know business, we know YOUR business
How do you know a good consultant when you see one?

Choosing your Veterinary Consultant will prove one of the most important decisions of your business life. There are many people and groups that call themselves veterinary consultants, but let's stop to assess the characteristics of a great consultant.
1) Knowledge of the Veterinary Profession
When evaluating veterinary consultants, you should carefully review the consultant's history within the veterinary profession. Just because a consultant experienced success on his or her own, does not make them an authority in the field, nor does it mean they are qualified to guide anyone else thru the potential minefield of decisions. The veterinary profession is as diverse as the nation it serves and each region, demographic, and veterinary team comes with their own set of strengths and challenges. Be sure you are leaning on a consultant who has great knowledge of all factors.

2) Passion for the profession and compassion for its professional
When reviewing the consultant's materials be sure to understand and consider the intentions of the consultant. There are many programs established to promote the wealth of the consultant and not the veterinarian. Ask about the consultant's publications, speaking engagements and efforts to advance the profession as a whole.

3) Sincerity of Testimonials
Be sure the consultant has tangible success. Don't take their word for it, but instead speak to those who have worked with them and know their service, personality and success.

4) Beware of Big Promises
Be sure you aren't dazzled by the big promises, like "guaranteed" or "risk free". In our world of fast-paced marketing, many times content will be saturated with big promises that draw you in, but turn out to be less than they seem. These promises are looking to play on your emotions and get you to commit without fully exploring what exactly that promise might be. These marketing specialists are instructed to make you an offer you cannot refuse, but remember...these are marketing specialists, filling their pockets. They are not veterinary consultants with your best interest in mind. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

5) See who is really winning
A hot button issue right now are peer groups. Here at Strategic, we feel exchange of ideas is an important part of business success; however, consider who is really benefiting. We have been watching the evolution of some of these peer groups and have become quite concerned with the actual outcomes. First, these groups are a large gamble. Remember, most of these participants came looking for help themselves. Pretty soon, they are leading other peer groups and guess who the real winner is...the group leader, who has had little to no involvement in your process. You'll pay them for any increase in profits instead of learning to carefully reinvest those profits for your own benefit!
